Having the support of Sensedia Expert Services enables large enterprises to unlock the full potential of our products and elevate their API and integration strategies. In this conversation, you will learn how the technical and business expertise of our Professional Services teams simplifies legacy modernization, enabling a more agile architecture ready for innovation. You will also discover our success story in Sompo’s digital transformation.

These details are brought to you by three Sensedia experts: Aldinei Simões (Software Architect), Bruna Lanzarini (Consulting Manager), and Rafael Costa (Head of Consulting).

How does Sensedia’s Expert Services enable legacy modernization?

Rafael: Our Professional Services team applies a set of practices, methodologies, and standards that leverage both our products and our clients’ architectures. When it comes to legacy systems, our focus is on Modern Development, which is part of our offering.

Modernizing legacy systems requires strategy,  it’s not just about replacing technology. The first step is to gain a deep understanding of the client’s legacy systems architecture, known as the AS-IS. Based on the strategy and objectives aligned with the client, we then propose a target architecture, which we call the TO-BE. This process is our starting point, known as the Assessment.

From this Assessment, we are able to determine the best path for legacy modernization. The goal is to move from a monolithic architecture to one that embraces a massive adoption of microservices and distributed development.

Could you share a real example of Sensedia Expert Services in action with one of our clients?

Bruna: We have a very interesting case with Sompo, an insurance company focused on the corporate insurance segment. The initial goal of the project was to take the first steps in the Open Insurance journey. The choice of Sensedia was driven precisely by our expertise in the Open ecosystem, as we play a key role both in the implementation and structuring of Open Finance in Brazil.

This experience was essential for bringing together two areas in which we have strong expertise: architectural modernization and regulatory compliance. We continue working with Sompo in alignment with their digital transformation roadmap. Our consulting team contributed to the construction of microservices, regulatory implementations, and the creation and development of new APIs.

All of these developments have always been closely aligned with a strategic vision to transform Sompo into a plug-and-play company. In practice, this means integrating partners with Sompo’s services in an agile and secure way. This transformation was solidified in March 2024, when we launched Sompo’s Developer Portal, designed to connect partners directly to the insurer’s services through APIs, simplifying integration and accelerating business.

How was the architectural prep carried out in the lead-up to the launch of Sompo’s Dev Portal?

Aldinei: It all began when Sompo faced a regulatory requirement for Open Insurance. We started by developing microservices directly within Sompo’s environment. From there, we integrated these microservices into our workflows on Sensedia’s gateway platform. This process is typically led by our Expert Services team, which assembles a group of architects and developers to design and implement the APIs according to the client’s needs.

As the project progressed, Sompo recognized that Sensedia could support them in implementing additional processes. From there, we began modernizing Sompo’s entire API communication architecture, adding new services beyond Open Insurance within our API platform. Our consulting developers handle the full implementation of these APIs to enable seamless communication.

Sompo adopted a more modern integration model for communicating with external partners, using APIs implemented within Sensedia’s gateway. The insurer recognized the need to make things easier for its partners, understanding the value of developing these APIs and showcasing these integrations to the world. The goal was to streamline the process so partners and developers could work more efficiently.

That’s when we began integrating with the Dev Portal and developed Sompo’s own Dev Portal, delivering a better experience for partners with APIs configured and implemented by Sensedia’s consulting team.
